Week in Review 15
Well this week was very short following the 4 day weekend last week. Thursday was Pause family night and we went down the hill. I got off of my sweep early and we were loading up in a 15 passenger van and heading down the hill by 4:00. We went to a great BBQ dinner and I was stuffed. It was so good. Then we went to Wal-mart and I got some soup and some stuff for my roommate. Then we went to Starbucks and hung out for a long time. While there Devin and I got into a conversation with this guy. I was really cool. We learned a lot about him and talked about Christ. Then we prayed for him because he was out job searching and just going through some stuff. It was a great experience. We didn’t get back till after midnight and I was super tired.
Friday began a two day weekend of working High Adventure. We worked for a few hours before dinner and then were off. But four of us girls had to do sign-ups at 9:45. So we went to chapel and really enjoyed the music. The band is led by Brenton Brown who wrote “Everlasting God”. It was cool because I actually ate dinner with him right before chapel. Pretty cool dude with a sweet accent. Then we all went over to the OK Chalet and waited.... and waited. Students didn’t start showing up until after 11 pm. Chapel went so late. So we didn’t get off until after midnight. A group of us were beginning the walk up to the building when before I knew what was happening my feet flew out from under me and I hit the ice hard. I was laying there for a minute or so just hurting. Thankfully I was able to land more on the side of my rear than directly on my tailbone. So my tailbone, behind, lower back, and neck are all sore but I’m ok. My backpack provided enough space that my head didn’t hit the ice but I got some wicked whip lash.
Saturday we got to work at 8:30, trained in Paintball till lunch, did sign ups, most of our group misheard the time we were supposed to meet so only a few of us learned how to drive the giant white bus (which was sweet), and then we ran a paintball session. Devin and I were doing sign ups during lunch which was pretty fun. I love interacting with all the kids. And then Jordan assigned me to the head referee position for the paintball session. I was a little nervous but I did really good. I was able to get the whole group of 40 some high schoolers through the rules and on the field playing games. My voice is gone a little from yelling so much. I really enjoyed the challenge of leading a paintball session. It was good. And I didn’t shot which made it even better.
So I am all packed for the DR... all our bags are packed away and ready to go...we leave in the morning. Crazy. I am so excited, it’s almost unreal that we are actually going.
So this has been my prayer for the last couple weeks but I can’t get the DR out of my head. Especially since we are going to be down there I am going to pray for them. I am also going to keep Haiti in my prayers because they are struggling with a lot of disease right now, and they are neighbors of the DR. Here we go!!!
